CNN —Cristóbal del Solar wrote his name into the history books on Thursday, as the Chilean golfer shot a 13-under 57 at the Astara Golf Championship to set the new record for the lowest round ever shot at a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. Del Solar’s bogey-free feat bests the previous record set by Germany’s Stephan Jaeger and “Mr. “Incredible, man,” del Solar told reporters. “Hopefully, I’ll celebrate Sunday as well,” del Solar added. Last week, del Solar’s Chilean compatriot Joaquin Niemann shot a 12-under 59 at the LIV Golf season opener in Mayakoba, Mexico, carding an eagle and 10 birdies.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Harold Varner III made an impressive turnaround in one week, going from last place in the LIV Golf season opener to a 7-under 63 on Thursday to share the first-round lead with Paul Casey. LIV Golf Las Vegas is being held the same week as the Super Bowl and drew a reasonable turnout at Las Vegas Country Club, despite temperatures that barely cracked 50 degrees when the shotgun start began. Tyrrell Hatton of England made it official Wednesday by joining Saudi-funded LIV Golf, giving the league another player from the top 20 in the world and filling out the new team led by Masters champion Jon Rahm. Hatton had been mentioned as a LIV Golf target ever since the Saudi-funded league signed Rahm in a surprising move toward the end of last year. LIV Golf starts its third year this week at Mayakoba on the Gulf coast of Mexico. Vincent, the brother of LIV Golf player Scott Vincent, earned a spot in the league at the qualifying tournament last year. LIV Golf now has 13 teams, after two years of 12 four-man teams.
